Extra Curricula

Here are a couple of examples of extra curricula activities which will look good on a personal statement and have useful skills involved which can be transferred to the medical profession:

Sports - And team based or individual sports are good and show you have a life outside of work. 

DOfE - Brilliant for showing teamwork and leadership in the expedition, especially at gold level.

CCF - If you join the medics platoon you will receive a free first aid course, also shows leadership at year 13 level.

World Challenge/Other Long School Trips - Much like DOfE expeditions.

Mental Health First Aid Course - Great course set up by the school and very cheap, will help communication skills.

Prefect - Being a subject prefect show dedication in your subjects and helping younger students is good too.

Talks/Seminars - Attending lectures on topics such as specific medical cases can show dedication. 

Clubs - Join lunchtime clubs at school such as medsoc, but also clubs on sport or hobbies. 

Biology Olympiad - Widens your scope on biology and also allows opportunity for medals and going to events.

Musical Instrument - Going through the grades 1-8 show progress and commitment.

Charity Work - Raising money for a charity at school or even working in a charity shop.

Saturday Job - Any job with costumer contact can improve communication, a job in a health care setting would be great.
